History and Background of Louisville Slugger:
Louisville Slugger is the Official Bat of Major League Baseball and the #1 name in baseball since the earliest days of the sport. In many ways, the storied 130+ year history of Louisville Slugger baseball bat began in the talented hands of 17-year-old John A. "Bud" Hillerich. Back in the 1880s, Bud was workign at his father's woodworking shop in Louisville, Kentucky.

Legend has it that Bud, a lover of baseball and a player himself, slipped away from work one afternoon in 1884 to watch Louisville's major league team, the Louisville Eclipse. Bud was in the stands as the team's star, Pete Browning, mired in a hitting slump and broke his bat. Sensing an opportunity, Bud invited Browning over to his father's shop where he offered to make him a new bat. With Browning at his side giving advice, Bud hand-crafted a new bat from a long slab of wood. Browning debuted the bat the very next day and got three hits.

Louisville Slugger, the most well-known and respected name in baseball, is synonymous with America's pastime. Louisville Slugger gloves have graced the hands of the greatest players through history. The brand doesn't rest on its past. Today, Louisville Slugger has some of the best bats, fielding gloves, batting gloves, catcher's gear, and equipment in the business and has grown to a full Diamond Sports powerhouse in Slow Pitch and Fastpitch, as well. Louisville Slugger continues to innovate and provide players at all levels the products and confidence they need to leave their marks on the game.

Louisville Slugger gloves are worn by more pitchers in Major League Baseball than any other glove.
